DAJUMA TRAINS THE TRAINERS

DAJUMA TRAINS THE TRAINERS

21 June 2021/in News

In the beginning of June, Rondy, our GM in charge of Sales and Marketing became for a while a trainer in Corporate Social Responsibility on the occasion of a specific event dedicated to CSR organised by the Directorate of Vocational Education, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, Seamolec (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Learning Center) and GIZ (Institution of Indonesian-German Cooperation) with Bappenas RI.

Since its creation in 2002, Dajuma considers CSR as being a major pillar of its eco-policy.

In this event, Rondy shared his experiences in tourism especially about e-commerce and CSR to 22 participants, all teachers from the tourism vocational school (SMK) in Jembrana. A precious moment of sharing based on almost 20 years of Rondy’s experience in Dajuma!

After a year 2020 without any tourism fairs all closed due to the pandemic, Dajuma was particularly happy to participate in the annual tourism promotion event, the now famous Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF). It ran from Tuesday (8/6) to Saturday (12/6) at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Nusa Dua and brought together more than 150 buyers. Of these, 64 overseas buyers mainly from UK, France, Australia, some from USA and also Asian countries participated virtually, while buyers from Indonesia were able to participate physically. The tourism offer was represented by 125 vendors coming from 11 provinces of the archipelago. Puri Dajuma was at booth number A72. A good vintage that bodes well for a long-awaited return to normal!

BARBECUE PARTY AFTER YOGA

7 June 2021/in News

Last Saturday, Dajuma happily welcomed Mr. Syed’s family and friends, for a memorable barbecue night in our tropical garden. Mr. Syed is a yoga teacher and a regular at Dajuma. Before the pandemic, he usually stayed during Nyepi Day with his family.

This time he came with 8 of his friends to practice several yoga sessions during the week-end. They staid from friday to sunday and had a special barbecue dinner in our garden, enjoying the food as well as their stay. They plan to return for another yoga and meditation weekend sometime in June.

Nostalgia for Balinese cuisine

NOSTALGIA FOR BALINESE CUISINE

31 May 2021/in News

The reopening of the Bali airport to international flights approaching, we can not help but think of all that we will find in the pleasures of life in this island so aptly named the Island of the Gods: a prolific nature, exceptional human relations, breathtaking landscapes, constant serenity, and, icing on the cake (no pun intended!), an exceptional cuisine inherited from multiple local, European and Asian influences. A good example shown in the photo, is the tasty “rijsttafel” recently served in our Rama restaurant, a Dutch word that literally translates to “rice table”. It is an elaborate Indonesian meal adapted by the Dutch consisting of many side dishes (up to fourty sometimes), small portions served in banana leaves, accompanied by rice prepared in different ways. Popular side dishes include egg rolls, sambals, satay, fish, fruits, vegetables, pickles, and nuts. Let’s hope a return to normal as soon as possible!

THE BEST OF YOGA

25 May 2021/in News

Bali is often mentioned in guidebooks as a great place to practice yoga. Anyone who has visited Bali can only confirm this opinion. Because of its culture, its exceptional nature and the three pillars of its philosophy (harmony with the gods, nature and between humans) Bali is indeed a privileged place for yoga. And Dajuma is no exception to the rule: with its tropical park and its atmosphere of serenity between heaven and earth, its spa and shala equipment, and its caring full-time yogini Tini, Dajuma offers its clients daily sessions that invigorate the body and soul. Pictured is an amateur female in action, a member of the local Novri Yoga community. Beginners as well as experienced practitioners are welcome!

17 May 2021/in News

This week, Dajuma received a very good news: Anggun, the eldest daughter of our general manager Alit, has just received an exceptional award. THE TRADITION OF FLORAL DECORATION IN BALI

THE TRADITION OF FLORAL DECORATION IN BALI

10 May 2021/in News

Totally part of Balinese culture is the tradition of floral decoration. Water and flowers are sacred in Balinese Hinduism and find their expression in the daily life of all Balinese families through floral decorations which are supposed to foster three human qualities: patience in the way to arrange flowers in complex and beautiful settings, knowledge of nature and sharing with Gods and humans.

In Dajuma, our staff loves sharing this tradition with our guests by organizing every week floral decoration workshops.

A perfect activity to practice after this long period of stress that we have been facing with the pandemic!  On the picture 3 recent floral decorations prepared by our staff to welcome our guests.

This week, Dajuma welcomed a team of fashion photographers headed by Putu Yadi Santika (@elgiophotography) from Negara accompanied by their lovely model, Ni Putu Merry Tasia Suryawan from Negara too. Many shots took place in our garden and on the beach showcasing beautiful dresses and the work of the stylists of the local brand of women’s clothing named Flow Collection owned by Suci Yasmita Dewi from Medewi Village. A blessed initiative that is particularly welcome in this period troubled by the pandemic!

THE UNIQUENESS OF KUNIGAN DAY

THE UNIQUENESS OF KUNIGAN DAY

26 April 2021/in News

Balinese celebrated the first Kuningan in 2021 on Saturday, April 24th. In this holy Kuningan Day it is said that Ida Sang Hyang Widhi (God) comes to earth to give his blessing to humans. It is technically the last day of the Galungan celebration. The Balinese also believe that Kuningan is the day when their ancestors return to heaven after visiting the earth during Galungan celebration. There are some typical decorations and offerings on this occasion such as nasi kuning or yellow rice, endongan, tamyang, and kolem. The offerings include yellowed rice (Kuningan is derived from the word kuning which means yellow) which is placed in a small “bowl” made of coconut leaves named “selanggi”. On Kuningan day you can see tamiang kolem, and endongan decorations hanging outside homes and temples. Tamiang means – because formed as a round – shield and represents protection, defense, and the cycle of the globe. It functions as a reminder to humans of karma and that they should protect themselves from bad behavior. Kolem as a symbol of resting place for Gods and ancestors ’spirits. Endongan means bag of provisions. It is made of coconut leaves and shaped like a bag or a pocket. The Balinese put different things like seeds, fruits, tuber inside the endongan. It also a symbol of food supply for the journey of the ancestors from earth to heaven. From a spiritual view, endongan represents the essential provisions that every human should carry-knowledge and homage. On the picture is Endongan made of young coconut leaves.

Tape and Jaje Uli for Galungan

“TAPE AND JAJE ULI” FOR GALUNGAN

19 April 2021/in News

This week, on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021, Balinese celebrated Galungan. Many preparations are usually made for the festival, such as gracious penjors along the roads, specific food as well as offerings. Among them, “tape and jaje uli” are particularly appreciated by all Balinese. “Tape” is made of sticky rice (white or mixed of white and black sticky rice), and through the fermentation process it becomes a delicious dish. “Jaje uli” is also made of stickly rice but mixed with coconut grated. After steaming process it needs to be pounded before it is ready to serve. These two dishes are very delicious to serve together. Just try it next time you visit us!
